Class of 1985 and recipient of an honorary doctorate of public service in 2002, Powell is the first African-American to serve as Rector in the College’s 313-year history.

Additional Background:
Powell, son of former Secretary of State Colin Powell, worked for the Defense and Justice departments before being tapped by President Clinton to fill a Republican slot as a FCC commissioner in 1997. He became chairman in 2001 and retired in 2005.  He was known for deregulating the industry and strengthening indecency rules.

In May 2006, the Law School recognized Wolf by selecting him for honorary membership in Order of the Coif, a national honor society that recognizes intellectual and professional accomplishment.  Law school dean W. Taylor Reveley II announced in November that the new law library under construction would be named after Wolf.

Additional Background:
Henry C. Wolf is Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer of Norfolk Southern Corporation, a holding company that controls a major freight railroad and owns a natural resources company and telecommunications company. His is currently also a director of Shenandoah Life Insurance Company.

In 1989, Banks was elected to the William and Mary Mason Business School Foundation Board where he served as chairman from 1992 until 2001 when his assignment with Wolseley took him to the United Kingdom. During his time on the board, Banks took an active leadership role, including presiding over a comprehensive strategic planning process in 1989. Banks still serves as a special advisor to the business school foundation.  He also has been a large contributor to William and Mary athletics.

Additional Background:
Banks retired as Group Chief Executive of Wolseley, the world’s largest supplier of heating and plumbing products, in July 2006. Before being appointed CEO in 2001, he worked for 34 years at Ferguson Enterprises, where he served as president from 1989 until 2001. He was first appointed to the board of London-based Wolseley, which is Ferguson’s parent company, in 1992. Banks is also a member of the board of directors of Bunzl, a worldwide distribution company, and of Townebank Peninsula (formerly Harbor Bank), which is headquartered in Virginia.

Blair began his career as an attorney in Boston, and has practiced in Washington for the past 30 years. Currently the president of Blair Law, PC, he is active with various charitable organizations, served on the Governor’s Economic Council under governors Baliles and Wilder and was a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Virginia Port Authority.  Blair’s career as a lawyer has thrived and in recent years he has taken an increasing interest in business ventures, one which includes working with Russian physicists to develop cutting edge telecom and industrial fiber optics technology and products and another that is a partnership to create a Web-based home technology company.

Additional Background:
Blair has served his alma mater by chairing reunion and reunion gift committees, co-founding the Friends of William and Mary Men’s Tennis and chairing the development committee of the Board of Advisors to the Thomas Jefferson Program in Public Policy.  Blair was chair of his class reunion gift committees in 1993 and 2003, helping to raise an unprecedented amount for a 35th Reunion class gift.

Capps retired as president and chief executive officer of energy giant Dominion in 2005 and currently serves as Chairman of the Dominion Board of Directors. As the long-tenured leader of Dominion Resources, Thomas E. Capps developed the company, based in Richmond, Virginia, from a one-dimensional provider of electricity to a multifaceted utility giant with several major subsidiaries.  He was inducted into the Greater Richmond, Virginia, Business Hall of Fame in 2001.

Previously he had served as President and Chief Executive Officer of USA.NET, a provider of innovative email solutions, and as President of the network and information technology division of MCI Telecommunications Corporation. Gerdelman also served in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Aviator.

Joseph J. Plumeri II has given $2,500,000 to the School of Business for its capital campaign.  Plumeri serves as a Trustee of the William and Mary Business School Foundation and on the Board of Visitors of the College of William and Mary. He is a a past recipient of the T.C. and Elizabeth Clarke Business School Medallion, and a member of the College’s Sir Robert Boyle Society. He is a lifetime member of the President’s Council and a trustee emeritus of the College’s Endowment Association. Plumeri is chair of the committee on Development and Alumni Affairs, and is a member of the Committee on Financial Affairs.  The College’s baseball stadium, Plumeri Field, is named in his honor.

Additional Background:
Mr. Plumeri, age 62, joined the Board of the Willis Group Limited on February 8, 2001. He is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Willis Group Limited, headquartered in London, is one of only three major risk management and insurance intermediaries that operate on a worldwide basis.  Prior to joining the Group, Mr. Plumeri spent 32 years as an executive with Citigroup Inc. and its predecessors, most recently overseeing the 450 North American retail branches of Citigroup's Citibank unit. Before that, Mr. Plumeri served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Citigroup's Primerica Financial Services from 1995 to 1999. He serves on the board of the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University, and as a Trustee for the Granum Value Fund.

Poston is a partner with Vandeventer Black and concentrates her law practice in business, health care, airports and estate planning and administration. Anita’s business practice focuses on representation of small businesses, hospitals and other health care providers and commercial airports. She presently serves as general counsel for the Norfolk International Airport.  She is a former member of the Norfolk School Board and the Virginia Community College Board.  She was the 1992 recipient of the Professional Woman of Hampton Roads Award, the 2001 recipient of the Citizen Lawyer Award for The College of William & Mary and a 2003 recipient of Inside Business’ Women in Business Achievement Award. She was selected as one of Virginia Business’ Virginia Legal Elite in 2005 in the field of Health Law .

Ukrop’s  support of William and Mary has included service as a trustee of the Endowment Association, a member of the Athletic Educational Foundation and an honorary lifetime member of the Presidnt’s Council. Along with her husband, Jim ‘60, himself a former member and vice rector of the Board of Visitors, Ukrop led the Alumni Association’s effort to establish the new Alumni Center, which was dedicated in 1997. Ukrop co-chaired her 40th reunion gift committee last year and currently serves as a member of the Campaign for William and Mary’s Steering Committee. The Ukrops announced in 2000 a gift intended to help the College construct a new soccer and lacrosse stadium adjacent to Plumeri Park.  Campus Drive was renamed this year Ukrop Way in honor of the Ukrop family.

Additional Background:
Ukrop and her husband Jim Ukrop were co-chairs of Gov. Warner's inaugural committee.  The Ukrop family operates the Ukrop supermarket chain that bears the name.  Barbara Ukrop is an active community volunteer with a long history of engagement in housing, historic preservation, social services and children’s issues.  In 1986, she was named as among the YWCA’s Ten Outstanding Women in category of Volunteerism.  She is a 1983 graduate of Leadership Metro Richmond. In the Richmond area, Ukrop serves on the Advisory Board, Historic Richmond Foundation and on the board of Better Housing Coalition.  Ukrop also serves as an Officer and Director of the Jenkins Foundation, one of The Community Foundation’s supporting organizations.
